Each month, we run a ‘handicap‘ race. This means you are running to beat your own time; you set off at an appropriate time for your expected pace over 4 miles and everyone aims to finish at around the same time. These runs test your fitness, focus and pacing strategies, but above all, they’re great fun and a great way to test yourself.
There are 2 handicap routes; The summer route, which is just over 4 miles and the winter route, which is just under 4 miles.
See the route maps to familiarise yourself with the routes.
Each month, we publish your times for that handicap route, so you can compare how you‘ve run against your own time on that route. In March and September, we issue the handicap cup for the most improved member. Remember, you’re running against your own time!
In order to keep all members safe on the darker winter nights, this is the winter route for the handicap run. It starts and ends at the Lightning Club, Warton. there is a small loop around Elder close & Westfield Drive, before you run a large loop of Freckleton.
This is the first F&WRC handicap route. It starts from Marsden's Funeral Home in Warton and finishes at The Lightning Club in Warton. Because of poor lighting on the route, we cannot follow this in winter.
